EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

EMDR is a highly researched, evidence-based therapy designed to help individuals heal from trauma, distressing memories, and emotional difficulties that continue to impact daily life. Rather than relying solely on talk therapy, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation—such as eye movements or tapping—to help the brain process unresolved experiences and reduce the emotional intensity tied to them.

How EMDR Works

Traumatic or overwhelming events can become “stuck” in the brain, causing ongoing symptoms such as anxiety, intrusive thoughts, triggers, emotional numbness, or negative self-beliefs. EMDR helps the brain reprocess these experiences so they can be stored in a more adaptive, less distressing way.

In EMDR therapy, you remain fully in control and aware, while we work together to:

  • Target painful or disruptive memories

  • Reduce emotional reactivity and physical tension

  • Replace negative beliefs with healthier, more empowering ones

  • Strengthen emotional resilience

  • Restore a sense of safety and balance

The goal is not to erase memories, but to help them lose their overwhelming impact.

What EMDR Can Help With

EMDR is effective for a wide range of concerns, including:

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Anxiety and panic

  • Depression

  • Grief and loss

  • Childhood trauma or attachment wounds

  • Abuse or neglect

  • Medical or birth trauma

  • Phobias

  • Stress from life transitions

  • Painful memories that continue to affect daily life

Many individuals experience meaningful improvement in fewer sessions than traditional talk therapy alone.

What to Expect in EMDR Sessions

EMDR is a structured, eight-phase model that includes:

  • History-taking and treatment planning

  • Building inner resources, grounding skills, and emotional safety

  • Processing memories using bilateral stimulation

  • Replacing negative beliefs with adaptive, positive ones

  • Strengthening and integrating new insights

Sessions always move at a pace that feels safe and appropriate for you. There is no reliving of trauma in detail—you simply notice what arises as your brain processes the memories in a healthier way.

A Path Toward Healing & Restoration

EMDR can help you release the emotional weight of traumatic or distressing experiences, regain a sense of control, and move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and peace.
